Remains of 11 Bodies Found in New Mexico

New Mexico police suspect a lone serial killer may be responsible for the death of 11 individuals whose remains have been found at a construction site near Albuquerque. Investigators have uncovered the bones of 11 people, including the fetus of a pregnant woman, on a mesa west of the city.Only two of the victims have been identified thus far.

On Feb. 2, a hiker found a human bone on the mesa, which was being razed for a housing development. Since then investigators have unearthed the remains of 11 individuals in a 30 by 10-yard area on the mesa, a flat, raised area in the desert.

16 Missing Women

Police suspect the remains belong to 16 women who went missing from Albuquerque between 2001 and 2006. All 16 were transients who had histories of prostitution and substance abuse.

The two identified victims include Michelle Valdez and Victoria Chavez. Valdez, originally from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, was the latest to be identified from dental records. She disappeared in 2005 and was pregnant when she died.
