AUSTIN (KXAN) – A body found in the woods off William Cannon Drive last week was apparently a victim of homicide, police said Tuesday.

The woman has been identified as Amy Elizabeth Dickey, 28, who was found last Thursday by a lawn crew in the wooded area behind a grocery story in that South Austin neighborhood.

Police said Dickey was involved in prostitution and that the suspect was her client.

Nathaniel Edwin Briscoe, 29, is charged with murder and was arrested on Memorial Day around 6 p.m. Police said Briscoe met with Dickey around 1 a.m. Thursday morning.

Police said Briscoe then allegedly killed Dickey at his apartment and threw her body behind the Randalls.

“He stated that he did have sexual intercourse with her and during the course of that, he had actually gripped her hand and wrist tightly above her head,” said Detective Hector Reveles with the Austin Police Department. “And that he had placed his hand around her neck and exerted a lot of force.”

Briscoe told police that he paid her $150 after their visit, then she left. And then, he told them, he went and smoked a joint in his car in an area that happened to be about 100 yards from where Dickey’s body was later found.

A warrant for his arrest said Briscoe and Dickey met on the Internet, and that an acquaintance of Dickey’s drove her to Briscoe’s apartment complex around 1 a.m. on that Thursday. The man, who is not named as he is not accused of anything, met Briscoe in the parkinglot and then waited as the two went to his apartment. He then got a phone call from Dickey when she got inside the apartment. According to the documents, the man waited for several hours and tried to call Dickey but she never answered.

Police have not described an official cause of death and say the investigation is continuing.
