The truth, exposed by his thorough research and methodology, is incredibly painful. Malarek uses these victims – from children in Asia sold by their parents to runaways throughout the United States and Canada who become truck-stop prostitutes enslaved by pimps – as the backdrop to highlight the callousness of the johns who rent their bodies. Tom Long: Film Review: ‘Cheri’ — GRADE: C

That the sum of “Cheri” isn’t nearly as impressive as it parts becomes apparent halfway through the movie, when it has been well-established that an aging prostitute (Michelle Pfeiffer) is going to be forced to give up her longtime boy toy (Rupert Friend) and face her own slowly withering beauty.
Once that’s established, the film keeps waiting for something to happen, but nothing really does. Based on a story by the French writer Colette, the crumbling beauty angst may have worked well on the page, but here it feels too slight to prop up an entire film. Continue reading

Albemarle County Police say they’ve busted a prostitution ring following a month long investigation.
Police are charging S. L. with a felony count of receiving money from prostitution earnings. L. is in custody at the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail pending a bond hearing.
Detectives have also charged E. R. of Washington, D.C. with a misdemeanor count of prostitution. She is free pending a court hearing in July. Continue reading

A CHINESE national who accused a senior anti-graft officer of hitting her during an interrogation, took the stand on Friday and said he also asked her about the size of her husband’s genitals.
Ms Lin Yanmei, who was then being investigated by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) for entering a marriage of convenience with a Singaporean, said principal senior investigator Neo Siong Leng also called her a prostitute, and an ugly one at that. Continue reading

IDAHO FALLS – Police arrested two women in connection with suspected prostitution happening at an Idaho Falls hotel.
Workers at the Shilo Inn called the Idaho Falls Police Department to file a complaint. They said the women had checked in for one night but then came down the next morning and paid for another night in cash. Employees also noticed different men were going to their room. The pattern went on for a few days.
Man Allegedly Raped Six Prostitutes In Fulton County

ATLANTA — Police charged a man accused of raping prostitutes.
Fulton county police are not releasing the man’s name or photograph, because they’re planning to use him a few more times in lineups.
Police said he’s a black man in his late 30s with a stocky build who sometimes drives a tractor trailer.
He’s in jail charged with raping six different prostitutes.
One of the alleged rape victims agreed to talk to CBS Atlanta News under the condition of anonymity. Continue reading
