Solomon Islands: Solomons teachers to join anti-prostitution drive

The Solomon Islands National Teachers Association plans to launch counselling programmes in schools to fight against school girls working as prostitutes.

The Solomon Times reports the girls involved are thought to be rural children who are in Honiara for education, but have little support from family members they live with in town.

A spokesperson for the teacher’s association, Joses Alick, says SINTA is trying to put in place a mechanism within schools that will involve teachers and parents coming together to try to work out a solution.
