Lap Dancers Not Just Pretty Faces

A STUDY of lap dancers has found that one in four has a university DEGREE.

The majority of women in the industry were attracted by the money after finishing school and gaining qualifications, according to the research.

An average stripper takes home £232 per shift — or £48,000 a year — after paying commission and fees to the club where they work.

Many are aspiring actresses, models and artists who hope to use lap dancing as a lucrative platform for breaking into their desired industry. Continue reading

Dancers From Ohio Strip Club Protest At Church

Church Has Protested Strip Club For 4 Years

UPDATED: 10:03 pm EDT August 9, 2010

WARSAW, Ohio —
The owner of an Ohio strip club and some of his dancers have been protesting at a church that has done the same to them for four years.

Women in bikinis sat in camp chairs Sunday outside the New Beginnings Ministries church in Warsaw, about 60 miles northeast of Columbus.

Tommy George owns the Foxhole strip club in nearby Newcastle. He says he and his employees decided to start coming to the church because they were fed up.

George says the church’s pastor, Bill Dunfee, and his congregation have bothered the club’s weekend patrons. He says they come armed with bullhorns, signs and video cameras for posting customers’ license plate numbers online.

Dunfee calls George a “parasite” and says seeing the protesters outside the church has strengthened the resolve of his flock.

The dancer vs. the strip club

By Paul Schwartzman
Friday, Mar 12, 2010

To hear Quansa Thompson talk of her life as an exotic dancer, to listen to her describe how men offer cash as she sashays, gyrates and jiggles the night away, is to evoke a thousand titillating thoughts, not a single one having anything to do with the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938.

That is, until Thompson brings up the Depression-era law, which she discovered last summer after being fired by her then-employer, the House, a den of prurient entertainment on Georgia Avenue NW. Thompson is suing the House in U.S. District Court, alleging that the club pays dancers no wages, but ought to under the law. The club has denied the charge.

An exotic dancer who works in Vancouver says a group protesting the sex industry during the 2010 Olympic Games is putting dancers at risk and interfering with their ability to make a living.

Trina Ricketts, a Surrey resident, accused local group REED, “Resist Exploitation, Embrace Dignity,” of using the Games to draw attention to their anti-sex work and abolition campaigns.

“What they’re abolishing is dancers’ incomes,” said Ricketts, who recently returned to exotic dancing after taking several years off. “And people take risks when they’re financially desperate.” Continue reading

Prosecutors revealed today they found a spot of slain exotic dancer Sheila Dos Santos’ blood on a sneaker belonging to the spurned ex-boyfriend accused of slashing her to death on the doorstep of her Everett apartment building.

Dos Santos, 26, the stripper known as “Kelly” at Club Alex’s in Stoughton, was found dead face down in a pool of her blood just before 4:30 a.m. on Oct. 2, her back torn apart by “large gapping (sic) slashes,” according to a police report.

Authorities said she was stabbed 33 times as a neighbor apparently heard her screaming “Get off of me!” and “Get away from me!” Continue reading
